Sesame Street Party Decor

 

Happy Wednesday . . . . 

Today's Wordless Wednesday is not so wordless cause I'm uploading the party decorations along with a how to. . .. but alas.... so it goes :o) 

Little man is turning TWO this weekend and we are having a Pirate Elmo Birthday...

 I know random right. 

But the kid is in love with Sesame Street and Pirates... so ... 

Pirate Elmo it is :o) 

While trying to come up with some fun and fugal party ideas I hit up my favorite party supply place... THE DOLLAR STORE !!!! 

We did Yellow and Red plates, cups, napkins along with streamers,  balloons all for a dollar... you just can't beat that!!!! 

My favorite part of the whole day  is our Sesame Street Tissue Paper Characters... 

I'm planning on hanging them in his room after the party... 

and for what they cost, even if they only make it through the day ... I'll be happy. 

 

They had 25 sheets of tissue paper for .... yup $1.00 

I got two just to be safe.... so $2.00 and we were out the door... 

Supplies You'll need..... 

Tissue Paper (red, yellow, blue, green) 

Yarn or string

Scissors

white printer paper

Markers or crayons

I started with Elmo but all are made the exact same way. 

(for Elmo and Cookie Monster I used 8 sheets of tissue paper,

 for Bird and Oscar I only used 4, I'd say use at least 8 so that they are nice and fluffy) 

1. I gathered up all of the red tissue and made sure it was all neatly stacked. 

2. Make sure all of your edges line up and then begin to fold it accordion style. 

3. Then I folded it in half  to see where the middle would be and tied yarn tightly around the stacked tissue. 

4. I then cut each end to be rounded. 

(Big Birds I cut to a point and Oscar's and Cookie Monster's  I left straight.)

5. Then you just start to pull apart the layers. 

6. once it was all opened up they look like giant puffy balls. 

 I hung them so I could see how they looked. They were pretty great.  but some needed to be a little extra fluffed. You wanna make sure they are puffed and even now, or it's harder once you tape on the faces.

7. Next your just going to draw out the eyes, noses, and mouths. 

(some people are asking for a pattern to print... I'll work on it)

8. Color them in and Cut them out and I used double sided tape to attach them to the tissue paper.

Oh How I've missed you!!!!

There were few things that were "comfy cozy" about my time in Texas. Family was the biggest comfort, and those dear family members that we left behind in San Antonio, we miss every day! (It stinks having our families so far apart that to choose to be with one side, means being so far away from the other side.)

Aside from having my husbands family, I was out of my element.  I was out of my comfort zone, away from my family and friends. Everything that used to bring me comfort was gone. I found a true refuge in blogging and always found such an emotional encouragement when I was able to get all of my thoughts, feelings, and "junk" out and on the screen.

Packing, moving and then getting settled into our new life back in New Jersey has not been easy. At least not easy in the way I thought would be. I had never been a wife here in Jersey. We left the day after we got married. So I never had to juggle my husband and my family. I became a mom down in Texas. I came "home" with a whole new life and needed to figure out how to be this new "me" back home.

It's been 6 months of catching up with deeply missed family. Adjusting to all of the changes of living with family, and little man being loved and adored by the 30 family members that missed that first year of his life. But I can honestly say, there is no place like home. Being surrounded by those that know you in your deepest darkest corners of yourself. The ones that can tell whats wrong just by looking at you. Not having to explain yourself, and being wrapped up in the those that love you the most.

But I've missed this. . . this being able to put it all out there. Maybe it's just how my mind works. But I need this to process things. To sort through the things that get so jumbled in my head.

So with the business of summer coming to an end, I thought it was the perfect time to pick back up where I left off.

Thankful Thursday

Gratitude creates it's own attitude. This week I am thankful for the amazing family God has given me. They are truly a huge support system, my best friends, my heart and soul.

This past week I had the awesome blessing of having my sister come down for a visit. She's the 2nd in line of the 6 of us. The mothering, nurturing, care taker, Elementary school teacher. It's funny how growing up, her and I argued about pretty much everything. It's an amazing transformation when the person who used to be your arch nemesis suddenly turns into one of your best friends. I didn't realize how much I missed her until seeing her. And then realizing how much I missed her, made me realize how much I have missed the other 4 sisters that are back home in NJ.

I've realized that God has placed each and every person in our family for a reason. Some offer their strength and support with common knowledge and tough love. Others offer us their crazy sense of humor,  bigheartedness and easy going attitude.

I am so thankful for each and every person, even the crazies :o)
